Foreign Language Enrichment Guidelines
Welcome to Elmhurst Enrichment! The following guidelines are provided to ensure that an enjoyable, rewarding, and safe classroom environment is established and the program runs smoothly.
- Children may bring a quick, healthy snack (fruit, veggies, yogurt, crackers etc.) and a water bottle to enjoy after morning class/just before afternoon classes.
- If your child will not be attending class on a particular day, please contact the school office at 683-3899. It is okay to leave a message on the answering machine.
- Please remind your child that they are coming to class to learn and have fun! They are expected to be respectful to the instructor, fellow students, and classroom materials. Behavioral problems may result in your child’s dismissal from the program.
Arrival/Dismissal/Transportation
AM Classes
- You must provide transportation to school. You may drop your child off on the circle in front of the school. Please follow the same rules as you would for school; pull-up as far as you can (past the bench) to drop off your child; please don’t pass other cars in front of you; please don’t walk children between cars. The parent volunteer/classroom assistant will receive students at the front entrance and direct them their foreign language class until 7:45 AM.
- Foreign Language classes begin promptly at 7:50 AM. Please respect the instructor and classroom assistant and drop off your child on time (7:40 AM is ideal).
- Your child will be dismissed directly from foreign language to their home room. They may buy milk and/or lunch tickets before heading to home room.
PM Classes
- Your child will be dismissed directly to enrichment class from their home room.
- Foriegn language enrichment ends at 3:55 PM. You must provide transportation home from school. Please respect the instructor and classroom assistant and pick up your child on time.
- Students will not be allowed to depart with an individual that is not on their release list. If you wish to add an individual to your child’s release list after submitting initial information, please send a note to school.
Early Release/school cancellation/inclement weather
- If school is released early or cancelled, enrichment class will be cancelled.
- Enrichment class may be cancelled after school because of inclement weather. Please check with the front office at 683-3899.
If a parent/guardian is late to pick up the child, the following steps will be taken
(We hope this will never be necessary):
- At 4:10 PM (15 minutes after scheduled dismissal) the parent/guardian will be charged a fee of $10.00.
- At 4:25 PM (30 minutes after scheduled dismissal), the parent/guardian will be charged an additional fee of $10.00, for a total of $20.00. If someone can not be reached and no one has come for the child, the classroom assistant or instructor will drive the child to the Portsmouth Police Station. The child will remain at the police station until picked up by a parent or designated adult.
